Malware

I have had my share of phishing scams, however i never open any of them. If i do not know this person i delete or ignore it.

Dealing with Virus's i know what its like. My grandfather has been plagued by such thing. It not a happy site to see. However i use my Antivirus software that my boyfriend gives me. That way if something fishy is being done or popped up, it will alert me right away and cancel the thing for me. Its a really nice thing to have.

Web 2.0 Continues

Kayak and Farecast are so awesome and helpful! I am always mad and irritated when i look through 3 different websites and get so confused and frustrated. Now this makes it so much easier to plan my trip to Japan and Finland. I am so happy someone created this! And with Farecast i can now know when to travel for cheap.

Rentometer is so helpful, especially in this roller coaster economoy. Now i can look for the place that is cheaper or where i can start small for now. I love this!

Upcoming will be so nice now for my weekends when i do not know what to do. Knowing events that are happening will be perfect for planning.

OCLS Texting Service will be such a great investment. Technology is running our world, so the library taking this advantage will be awesome to the patron's eyes.

Chain, Chain, Change...

The part of the mission statement i connect to would have to be the following, "The Library connects our changing community to the evolving world of ideas, information and technology." This statement draws my attention because of how well and thorough hard training and updating the library is battling with understanding and bringing technology into our community and into the library community.

How do i see the library creating a well-informed, well-connected community making it a great place to live, learn, work, and play? My first response is the distinction between departments. In the children's they create an environment that would help young children learn to read, have fun, and use the computers while doing interactive academic games. This as well gives parents who can not afford such expensive luxuries to bring their children and use them for free.

For the second, third, and fourth floors, they create a research environment for academic or workforce patrons. Students in school or in college can use our free resource to finish something for their grade or future. Some workforce patrons that need to bring research in their spare time and allowing them to keep their change in their pocket can use this. Even for patrons that do not follow any of them and just do what i do, research for fun, can use this resource as well. :)

All these departments bring a free resource to those who can not afford such luxuries, or suffer and can not afford due to economic issues. It is a great place for friends to come and gather, for family to interact, to help students, and those in workforce.

With our monthly magazine this brings even more fun and advantages to patrons. Keeping them informed on free events or classes not only increases who comes, but allows them to know we are an open source to them. No charge...except late fees. :)

Open Source Information

Technology has changed the way i access, use, and provide information since i was little. In libraries you use to look up for a book through card catalogs inside a big desk. It was a neat way however it took forever. Now we can look on the computer and check on with a broader range of keywords. Such as Subject, Author, title, etc. It is a fast and easier way and there would be no lines what so ever to look through the card catalog. Anyone can enter the site and use the catalog.

The library's future role in the technology field is a good investment due to the modern world growing fast. People want to have a modern library. Instead of the quite library in which people gathered to read or research it is now a huge community center. Not only can people come in a read/research, they can come in a participate in social activities. Such as anime/manga club for young adult, children's story time which is a good social activity for not only kids, but parents as well. Musicians come in and perform. Authors or speakers come in as well to talk to an audience. The library is using mp3 players to download books. We have CD books for people who want to listen instead of read. So much things are happening and growing in the library as new technology comes out and the library hurries to create something engaging using this new technology. I think this library will be a huge success as it evolves to fit the growth of society.

Open Source Information

I feel that the Open office is a better deal than Microsoft. The only reason you are paying the $100-$300 system is for the name. If you can get it for free and twist it to fit your needs, personal or business, its better than going to jail or getting fined.

How has technology changed the OCLS since i joined? Well, they are competing with other top libraries in the United States. As the modern age takes over the world little by little with advanced technology and making life more easier, the library loses its roll in giving open sources of information to the public. Younger kids are using the Internet for research. Others read books online. It all happens at home. Why should they change that?

The library is doing a good deal in keeping up with technology and with the modern world. Some people still read books and research. Now the library offers computer classes, in English or Spanish, they are doing some anime/manga community groups meetings here. They are keeping up with gaming and technology. Bringing in bands from the town to play here, maybe in hopes of being recognized. The library is doing a lot to keep up and in my opinion they are doing a great job. It will take time to get more people in knowing that we offer this, but someday i think the library will be turned into a technology filled library.

Technology and Health

While i was reading the blog i found the WiiFit to be a plausible choice for me. I do love games and i do own the Wii, however, the WiiFit price is really too much. I do plan on getting it sometime, but money wise...not so soon.

The nutritional website was very helpful. I enjoyed it and plan on using it.

As for running...i do that with my dog while listening to music. Not loud though, enough to where i can hear it and the outside world.

Learn 2.1

well, here is another challenge that should be completed in no time! Learn 2.1 has begun and i hope i learn some new things. Although having a boyfriend in the technology field might be a handicap for this and i might know more than what is being taught. Or maybe i will learn more about it and begin to understand more. Hopefully that works out well.

Hope to keep posting.

MP3

hm...downloading a book onto an MP3 to listen to? Nah, im old fashion and love to read them with the book at hand. I am a multi-learner, but just having the written part gives me a more respect to the author. Instead of listening to someone else who is reading the book outloud. My MP3 is only for music. ^_^

DRM

Digital Right Management is a good sure thing for new artists, but as the law stated a song can be used for a new song tune after so many years. Why not add that to DRM. After so many years the song becomes worthless and you can download it for free. Now, if it is new or such, i sometimes think you should pay. Although entertainment has been free for a long time until it became a big business for people to make lots of money.

Flicker

It seems just like photobucket.com! LOL, except more personal. Maybe i should upload some of my drawings. Ne?

DOGSTER

I really love Dogster! It is so much fun and my little Pembroke Welsh Corgi, MAE MAE, can have her own website! I already created an account and posted her on there.

Library technology

My favorite Library Technology is Guru library. It is fun and interesting. Plus the whole outlook of the site got my notice.

Web 2.0 Applications

I was surprise to find OCLS in myspace.com and also in YouTube.com. I did not know there were such applications. Not meaning OCLS does not use technology, i just did not know they posted videos and their own accounts/websites. It is interesting to find an organization adapting to the world outside them.

Bloglines...

I searched through bloglines, yet i did not find it somewhat interesting. I was confused with the whole add and looking for it. It was rather nice to see something new, but i do not think i would use it.

Technorati

Today, i visited Technorati. It was quite interesting though it does make it similar to the idea or looking at BBC.Co.Uk. Searching for articles and ideas. It was very unique, but im not sure i would use it though.

Creation

This is my first blog that i created for a job force. Feels wierd, lol. It will be interesting to see if i keep my blog. Right now, i am eating some healthy treats that our staff brought for healthy bar day. Its really interesting to see how they all try to be fit. Unlike me, they want to lose weight. I need to...gain weight. LOL. I understand my metabolisms are way to fast due to my fathers genes and my mothers fathers gene.I know i got lucky. However, to be bothered none stop about how below weight i am. Kinda gets to me. But i do exercise and eat alot so it works out. Well, better check out some other things.
